Pumpkin-Apple Butter

 Before making this apple butter, I had never even HAD apple butter.  I'd rather peanut butter or simply, butter, on my toast, however, I figured with all the "fall" happening around me, I wanted to do something a little different then my regular dips and dinners.  This was really, REALLY easy too, considering it's a crockpot recipe -- my fave!  And it makes the house smell like heaven!

What You'll Need:
5 lbs. red apples (or any kind you like)
1/4 cup cinnamon
2 - 15-oz. cans 100% pure pumpkin (I used Libby's)
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 tsp. salt

 This recipe is pretty easy-peasy-apple-squeezy!  Simply peel, core, and dice the apples.  Put all of the apples, plus half the cinnamon in the crock pot.  Cook on high for 6 hours, stirring occasionally. 

 After 6 hours on high, stir the apples really well, and turn down to low, and cook for another 6 hours.  The picture below is what it looks like after all 12 hours in the crock pot. 

Then, I added the 2 cans of pumpkin, dark brown sugar, the rest of the cinnamon, and salt and stirred well to incorporate.  After this point, I turned the crock pot off, and went to bed.  The next morning, when I got up for work, I turned it back on low, and cooked for another 6 hours, uncovered.  This is when it got really dark, and the taste of the pumpkin really came out.  After I let it cool significantly, I put it into jars, and put it in the refrigerator!
